Három színpaddal rendelkezett a helyszín, ebből kettő közvetlenül egymás mellett a nagyteremben kapott helyet, azonban a szervezők igyekeztek úgy elosztani a programokat, hogy a két színpad lehetőleg ne zavarja egymást.

Minket természetesen elsősorban a cosplayes programok érdekeltek.

A kisebb fennakadások ellenére jól éreztük magunkat a versenyen, több környező országbeli ismerősünkkel is összefutottunk, akik szintén kipróbálták a versenyt, illetve sikerül néhány osztrák versenyzővel is megismerkednünk.

Eme program bukását a rendkívül rossz szervezés okozta.

English
In August we decided to visit the anime themed convention Aninite, in Austria, Vienna.

Before we would go into the programs, it’s worth to say a few words about the location itself too, which really added to the athmosphere. We are talking here about an event hotel venue, a glass pyramid with lots of green scenery and rocks inside, resembling a jungle. Although temperatures were really rising inside thanks to all the glass, the scenery was actually worth it, and it provided great photo backgrounds too.

The entry process on Friday was really smooth and easy, although we arrived during working hours, so many people were probably still at work. Picking up the tickets, going through the security check went fast and without problems. On Friday and Sunday visitor numbers were somewhat lower, on Saturday however all Saturday Tickets were sold out.

At the convention we found many classic animecon programs such as AMV contests, cosplay competitions, lectures and presentations about different topics, game corner, etc. Programs started later on Friday but went till 22:00 in the evening (same on Saturday) and were followed by an Afterparty. If this was still not enough for you, there was still a Sunday to go.
We skipped the Afterparty though because we had some work left on our costumes for the contest the next days.

The convention had 3 stages in total, 2 in the main stage hall and one a little bit further away at the other side of the venue.
Our main interest was of course the cosplay, all 3 days each had one cosplay competiton. The „Character-Cosplay” took place on Friday – as the name already suggests, cosplayers had to make a skit and the character the best they can (I think the hungarian „performance cathegory would be the closest match if we would want to compare it to something, with more on the role-play side). On Saturday we checked out the ICCC qualifier, which is an international competition (currntly with 9 countries), and the winner has the chance to represent their country in the Finals. On the last day we had the „X-Cosplay”, which is the same as the hungarian „craftmanship” contest – if you had a self-made costume with amazing details, etc. this was your contest to go.

We saw lots of amazing and beautiful cosplays, the bigger ones were usually escorted by staff members to ensure the safety of both the cosplayer and the visitors (since often vision was limited in those costumes, or it included special accessories like stilts).
Original designs were not that popular or common. Genshin Impact cosplays were still very popular, and the convention had a nice photo wall with the actual official event art.

We were curious about the cosplay contest, so some of us actually registered to try it. The cosplay organizer staff and the helpers were all really kind and helpful, trying to match every request the cosplayers had. There were some technical issues during the contest (music or video files not working or too low volume) but the cosplayers tried their best to adapt and the MC girl did her job well trying to bring out the best of the situation, even if there were some issues.
We had fun at the contest, and we met some of our international friends too (who were curious about the contest too and were here to try it) from Slovakia, Czech-Republic and Serbia. We made some new austrian friends too. 🙂

We were really curious and looking forward to the tea house and the maid café, so we reserved a slot for Saturday and Sunday, which allowed us to spend 40-45 minutes at a table, which was actually long enough to see and try everything we wanted.
The layout and decoration of both the tea house and the maid café was really nice, luckily the location had some in-built eastern elements, which added a lot to the athmosphere.
Our favorite was actually the tea house, all the tea was really good, it was served in pots with cups, and we found out that we have a chance to buy some of that tea in a shop at the artist alley.
The maid café was fun, nicely decorated and with a kind maid staff but we found the quality of the food and drinks lacking compared to the price.

Since we mentioned the tea shop, it’s time to talk about the merchants and exhibitors a bit. The Artist Alley had 44 artists who all brought a nice variation of interesting goods, from art, posters, bags, shirts, keychains, etc. The merchant shops had a good selection of anime themed merch, and there was a huge manga shop. This manga shop made me realize how far the manga publishing evolved in Austria – the last time I remember there were only a few titles availabe, bot now there were hundreds of titles available.

There was one more program we were especially looking forward to – which sadly turned out to be a big disappointment for us – and this was the Genshin Impact program on the stage.
This started as a Fan-Meetup, and a few days before the event it was announced and turned into a stage program. We asked beforehand about the conditions to apply and if we have to register, and we were told that we don’t have to do anything, just make sure to show up at the given time – which we did. There were 25-30 cosplayers gathered on spot, and the staff was leading us to the stage, where the actual trouble started. The MC suddenly announced off-stage (publicum included) that there was a mistake, there was an actual registration process for this program, so anyone who did not register, should not enter the stage. Which left only 8 cosplayers for a 45 min program (we don’t know how did they know about the registration process, since the info was not to be found on the website or any of the social media sites).
They offered all the disappointed cosplayers to join the group photo after the stage show, but part of the cosplayers just left (us included).

There was a small but cozy outdoor part of the venue, which was surrounded by food booths. Many people were chilling outside, eating and chatting.
There were some sun chairs, which werre actually great – we would really need some of those at our conventions, it was really easy to get used to them 😉

All in all, it was a nice and fun event, with some interesting programs, amazing location, kind and helpful organizers (you could feel they put their heart into it). There is still some room for some improvement (lenght of the awards, technical tests, information-flow, etc.), but it’s definitely an event worth to visit.
